The head of the joint United Nations-African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur (UNAMID) Ibrahim Gambari, on Thursday called for World Bank assistance to ensure that the “dividends of peace are made evident” to promote sustainable peace in the war-ravaged Sudanese region.
AGRA boss calls for transfer of modern techniques to Africa’s small farmers(2010-09-02 14:50:07)
The former United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Kofi Annan, who is the chairman of the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) told the opening ceremony of the AGRA conference in Accra that despite the challenges such as climate change, Africa has made strides in food security and that the alliance will strive hard to partner African governments to transfer modern techniques of agriculture to small farmers to increase their yields.

The Mozambican cabinet on Thursday convened an emergency meeting and deployed an armed military force to clear barricades as outraged residents continued to protest, blocking roads and looting shops and banks in the capital for the second day of the bloodied riots ever witnessed here, ignited by soaring prices of commodities.

The Secretary for Nutrition, HIV and AIDS at the office of the president and cabinet, Mary Shawa, said on Thursday in the capital Lilongwe that 68 percent of all HIV positive pregnant women in the country are benefiting from the new World Health Organisation (WHO) treatment guideline.
