More than 200 blocks of hemp were seized during a joint operation led by officers of the Central Office for Narcotic Drugs supported by the National Counter-terrorism Force (FORSAT), the Malian Ministry of Security said in statement on Thursday in Bamako.

The operation took place last weekend in the neighbourhoods of Baco Djricorni Golf and Sabalibougou, where an individual was rounded up with 49 blocks of hemp, the statement said.

It added that “219 blocks of cannabis sativa were seized during the search of the house of two dyers, who were denounced by the smuggler arrested earlier.”

"The suspects and the products are with the Central Narcotics Bureau for further investigations," according to the statement, which added that the seized illicit products came from Ghana and were bound for Mauritania through Burkina Faso.
