The military exercise, launched on Friday, takes place in the area between Yamoussoukro, Tiebissou, Didievi and Sakassou, in central Cote d’Ivoire.

It will involve about 400 troops of the Ivorian armed forces.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the military maneuver involving several troops of the army and air force, is conducted in accordance with the Preparation and Training Program of the Armed Forces of Cote d’Ivoire (FACI).

During the exercise, gunshots and explosions will be heard, the Armed Forces General Staff said, adding that vehicles and armored vehicles will be used on nearby roads and aircraft will participate in the maneuver.

This exercise is taking place against the backdrop of increasing threat from jihadists in the Sahel where attacks have intensified.
