The Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU) said Wednesday that it would hold countrywide demonstrations against the government's lack of respect for the Public Service Bargaining Council.

The unions accuse the government of hiking salaries of public servants outside the scope of bargaining council.

BOFEPUSU deputy secretary general Ketlhalefilwe Motshegwa said the demonstrations would be held at the end of every month in all regions across the country.

"Workers across all sectors and the public are invited to be part of those historic demonstrations against violations of trade unions and workers' rights by Botswana Government," he said.

Motshegwa revealed that the demonstrations would be attended by international trade unions and covered by the international media.

"Going forward, the federation will hold demonstrations at the end of each month. This will be augmented by workers rallies addressed by national leadership," he said.

Motshegwa also revealed that they intend to mobilise embassies of various countries in Botswana as well as traditional leadership against the government's disrespect for collective bargaining.
