Gambia’s President Adama Barrow has sacked his Vice President Ousainou Darboe in a major cabinet reshuffle which also saw the dismissal of a few other cabinet members.

In an announcement from the Office of the President on Friday, Barrow said he was acting under Sections 70 (5) (a), 71(4) (b) and Sections 70(3) and 71(3) of the Gambian constitution to replace Mr Darboe with Isatou Touray, who will continue to oversee the Health ministry until further notice.

Darboe’s sacking as VP comes amidst persistent speculations about his reportedly deteriorating relations with President Barrow.

Also sacked is Amadou Sanneh as Minister to Trade, Regional Integration, Industry, and Employment and replaced by Mr. Lamin Jobe.

Jobe 51 holds a Master Degree in Business Administration from the University of Poona, India.

Lamin N. Dibba has also been removed as Minister of Agriculture, with James Gomez, Minister of Fisheries and Water Resources appointed to oversee the ministry until further notice.
