Burkina plans Thursday homage for Michel Kafando

    APA-Ouagadougou (B/Faso)

Burkina Faso will pay tribute to its former caretaker president Michel Kafando for outstanding contribution to his country, a statement from the Culture ministry discloced on Wednesday.

The former interim leader led a transition from November 2014 to December 2015, in the wake of the overthrow of long-standing ruler Blaise Compaore, a year earlier.

The tribute ceremony is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the National Center for Arts, Entertainment and Audiovisual (CENASA) and will be marked by the screening of a film on the life of Kafando directed by French artist Isabelle Bulczynski, the organizers say quoting the statement from the ministry.

Mr. Kafando stepped down on 29 December, 2015, a month after Roch Marc Christian Kabore was democratically elected president of Burkina Faso.

Since May 2017, Michel Kafando is the Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations Organization (UN) in Burundi.
