Cameroon witnesses dip in cocoa price

    APA-Douala (Cameroon)

The price for a kilogramme of cocoa fell from an average of CFAf 1,000 in November to CFA 850 francs in December, according to data collected Tuesday from the Industry Information System (SIF).

This decline is affecting producers who, during the last cocoa season, sold a kilogramme of cocoa for CFA 1400 franc.

According to officials of the National Office of Coffee and Cocoa (ONCC), this drop in prices is mainly due to overproduction of cocoa at the international level.

Given the current situation, it is unclear whether the 260,000 tonnes projected for the end of the cocoa season will be reached, despite incentives by the authorities for producers to boost their yields.

The incentives include bonuses and smooth procedures to access inputs.
