    Dakar airport passengers up 129,000 in October 2017

    The number of passengers registered at Leopold Sedar Senghor International Airport (LSS) in Dakar increased by 129,375 during the first ten months of 2017, compared to the same period of 2016, according to data compiled by the Agency for the Safety of Air Navigation in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA).

    The cumulative number of passengers registered during this period was 1,660,383, against 1,531,008 during the first nine months of 2016, representing an increase of 8.5 percent.

    This growth is mainly due to the number of passengers in transit, whose number has increased by 21.7 percent, to 119,720, against 98,351 at the end of October 2016.

    Passengers on departure and on arrival also contributed to this increase, with respective increases of 8.3 percent to reach 805,599 and 6.7 percent to reach735, 064.

    As for the recorded freight, it is down 3.9 percent, from 29,260 tonnes in 2016 to 28,124 tonnes during the first ten months of 2017.

    Regarding the movement of aircraft, it is up 1.6 percent with 24,852 aircraft having touched down at LSS Airport, against 24,461 at the end of October 2016.
