The Member States of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) will meet on May 17-18, 2022 in Marrakech for the 5th UfM Ministerial Meeting on Employment and Labor.

Organized by the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, and co-chaired by the European Commission through the Directorate General for Employment and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Labor of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in the presence of the Union for the Mediterranean, this meeting will discuss the pressing challenges on the labor market in the Euro-Mediterranean region, especially on how to ensure an inclusive, green, digital and sustainable recovery for all, especially the most vulnerable, according to a note of the UfM left on its official website.

The conference will present the ambition behind the UfM’s youth strategy to focus on regional initiatives for women's employability and highlight UNIDO’s actions to support them in their economic empowerment efforts.

The debate will be enriched by testimonies of women beneficiaries of UNIDO and UfM initiatives in Morocco, as well as by examples of good practices implemented in the Kingdom, within the framework of the UfM employment grants program.

The 4th UfM Ministerial Meeting on Employment and Labor took place in Cascais, Portugal, on April 2-3, 2019, under the theme “Jobs, Skills and Opportunities for All.”

The Euro-Mediterranean region has one of the youngest populations in the world, with one in three people under the age of 25. In addition to this population that is heavily affected by employment challenges, there are women who have been hard hit by the pandemic that has forced the closure of stores and sectors that employ women and unpaid care.
