Former Botswana president Ian Khama on Monday donated to victims of Cyclone Idai after the disaster left hundreds dead and thousands homeless in Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

The former president handed over tents and blankets to the High Commissioner of Mozambique in Botswana, Assa Abel Jonaze Guambe, and Margaret Ruparangada who is Charge de Affaires Zimbabwe in the capital Gaborone.

“Cyclone Idai recently caused one of the worst disasters in southern Africa therefore I found it befitting to donate 200 blankets and over 50 tents to those affected in Mozambique and Zimbabwe,” Khama said.

A devastating cyclone has hit Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe recently.

More than 1.7 million people are estimated to have been in the direct path of the cyclone.
