Former Lesotho army chief arrested - Official

    APA-Maseru (Lesotho)

Former Lesotho Defence Force commander Tlali Kamoli was on Wednesday detained for interrogation at police headquarters in Maseru, according to Deputy Home Affairs Minister Machesetsa Mofomobe.

Mofomobe told APA that “Kamoli is currently in police custody for interrogation on several criminal offences.

“I won't give more details on the interrogation as yet to avoid jeopardy of police investigations," he said.

It could not be independently verified with the police if the former general was indeed in custody.

Kamoli served as army chief from 2012 to August 2014 when he was dismissed by Prime Minster Thomas Thabane.

He resisted the dismissal and was reinstated by Thabane’s successor Pakalitha Mosisili when the Democratic Congress leader formed a seven-party coalition government following snap elections in 2015.
