Four dead in Mozambique mine mudslide

    APA-Maputo (Mozambique)

Four illegal gold miners were on Saturday confirmed dead in disused gold mine in Mozambique's Manica province following a mudslide caused by heavy rains.

Sussundenga district administrator Rosa Bia told APA that the miners, aged between 20 and 25 years, died on Saturday afternoon after the mine is presumed to have collapsed due to heavy rainfall in the region.

Bia said the victims are all Mozambicans.

"The rescue operation happened today (Saturday) and the bodies are in the district morgue,: Bia said by phone from Sussundenga.

She called on the miners to respect mining regulations, especially during rainy seasons.
