Gambia’s President Adama Barrow will deliver his first state of the nation address in the new National Assembly on Monday 24th July, three months after its members were elected.

A statement from the assembly chambers on Monday said Mr. Barrow will address the nation on the current situation in the country, reviewing his government's policies after taking over last January following a testy political crisis over the disputed results of the December 1, 2016 Presidential election in which his predecessor Yahya Jammeh was defeated.

President Barrow will also speak on the country's economic situation as investigations into alleged financial embezzlement by the former regime get underway, with a new commission of inquiry launched last week.

It will be Barrow's first address the the House, an event which will also mark the state opening of parliament during which the Gambian leader will declare the official start to sittings in the United Democratic Party -dominated National Assembly whose new members were sworn in three months ago.
