Ghana: 2017 female league launched in Accra

The 2016/ 17 National Women's League has been launched in Accra to kick off on April 29, after an official ceremony at the GFA Secretariat on Wednesday.

It was preceded by a stakeholders meeting attended by some Women’s League clubs, and deliberated on various issues concerning the upcoming season.

It is the 5th edition of the National Women’s League and it will maintain the form in two-zoned (Northern & Southern) 16-club league.

The ceremony was held late afternoon of Wednesday where various stakeholders took active part.

Ghana's Women's League Board Chaiperson, Ms. Leaner Addy, said the league will be played in two zones, northern and southern, with each zone having eight (8) teams.

The ultimate winner will emerge after leaders of the various zones play against each other after the season.

Some league games are expected to be given live coverage as part of efforts to shore up interest in female football in the country.
