Lesotho and India have taken a major step to bolster their economic ties following the launch of a council to promote linkages between the two countries, according to reports monitored here on Tuesday.

The reports said the India-Lesotho Business Council was formally inaugurated in the Indian capital New Delhi on Monday following the signing of a memorandum of understanding by Lesotho’s high commissioner to India, Lineo Irene Molise-Mabusela and Indian Economic Trade Organisation president Asif Iqbal.

The ceremony was attended by Lesotho Foreign Minister Matsepo Ramakoea and senior Indian government and business officials.

The establishment of the business council comes in the wake of huge interest between the two countries to expand the scope for bilateral trading opportunities in MSME, pharmaceutical and manufacturing sectors.

The council is expected to identify business partnerships between India and Lesotho and facilitate a conducive environment for better business growth and investment promotion.
