Liberia: Japan to construct fishing port in Buchanan

Japan is due to construct a fishing port in Liberia’s second city Buchanan in Grand Bassa County located about 88 miles from the capital Monrovia.

The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) has announced that a two-member delegation from the government of Japan is in Liberia as guest of NaFAA.

A press release said the delegation is from the Japanese-owned Overseas Agri-Fisheries Consultants Limited (OAFIC Co., Ltd.

OAFIC Ltd. is one of Japan’s largest comprehensive consulting companies specializing in the fisheries, livestock, agriculture and other related sectors, including environment.

According to the NaFAA director-general Emma Metieh-Glassco, the selection of Buchanan for the proposed project is welcome, as it is the second largest coastal county in the country next to Montserrado, with a total of 22 fishing communities.
