Magnitude 4.6 earthquake hits Zambia

A magnitude 4.6 earthquake hit northwestern Zambia on Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

USGS said the shallow earthquake hit near Mufumbwe in Zambia’s North-Western province at 4:11 am local time (0211 GMT) at a shallow depth of 10 km.  

Based on the preliminary seismic data, there was no significant damage from the earthquake, which was felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicentre, according to USGS.

Weak shaking was felt in Mufumbwe that is located about 47km from the epicentre, as well as in Kabompo (70km away), Kalengwa (78km away) and Kaoma (81km away).
