Mali: Bodies of eight missing soldiers found

    APA-Bamako (Mali)

The remains of eight soldiers reported missing after an attack on a Malian army patrol between Gao and Menaka in the north of the country have been found near Menaka, sources say.

Following the deadly ambush, the army claimed about a dozen soldiers had gone missing with no indication that they were alive.

The Malian army, backed by foreign troops relentlessly combed the area in a bid to recover the missing soldiers.

News of the discovery of the eight bodies, spread like wildfire on Monday.

"The bodies of eight missing soldiers have been found" Bajan Ag Hamatou, the MP for Menaka constituency told the African Press Agency.

According to the parliamentarian, three bodies were found in one area while the other five were discovered in a different location.

    The army has not commented.

When contacted by APA, Colonel Diarran Kone, a spokesman of the Malian army could only say he “had no information on this.”
