    Mauritania and Senegal sign gas exploration deal

    Mauritania and Senegal, on Friday, signed a bilateral cooperation convention for the development and joint exploitation of the Grand Tortue/ Ahmeyim gas field.

    The agreement on the field located in the Atlantic Ocean, along the two countries’ common border, was signed in Nouakchott by Mauritania’s Oil, Energy and Mines minister, Mohamed Abdel Fetah, and his Senegalese counterpart Mansour Elimane Kane.

    The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz and his Senegalese counterpart Macky Sall, who has been on a working visit to Mauritania since Thursday.

    On Friday, the two leaders held a tête-à-tête, which was later extended to members of their respective delegations.
