Mogadishu: Eight killed as Shabaab claims blast

At least eight people have been killed in a suicide bomb blast in a district of the Somali capital Mogadishu which also left 17 others wounded on Thursday.

The Somali police say students were among those killed in the blast near a school when a suicide bomber drove his vehicle into a security convoy protecting UN workers.

13 people were injured including schoolchildren.

al-Shabab, the militant group involved in an insurgency in Somalia for the past 12 years have claimed responsibility for the attack.
