APA-Rabat (Morocco)

A total of 165 illegal migrants were rescued last weekend by units of the Moroccan Royal Navy operating in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, according to a military source.

The people rescued, 103 sub-Saharan Africans, 34 Moroccans, 27 Bangladeshis and one Burmese, were in difficulty on board makeshift boats, according to the same source.

They have since received first aid on board Moroccan royal navy boats, before being brought back safe and sound to the nearest ports in the kingdom and handed over to the Gendarmerie for the usual procedures.

The Moroccan navy has rescued dozens of illegal migrants in recent weeks.
