Some 64,000 Burkinabe live the status of displaced persons within their own country thanks to insecurity, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) announces in a statement seen by APA on Wednesday.

“We are very concerned about the rapid deterioration of the security situation in Burkina Faso and the rise in inter-communal violence”, UNHCR declares, deploring the fact that these developments are bringing about casualties and affecting the livelihoods of the population.

“Today, we have more than 64,000 Burkinabes who were forced to flee their homes and ended up finding themselves displaced within their own country, in the Sahel region” according to the UN agency.

As part of the coordination of interventions, the UNHCR is preparing a response to the dire situation of the displaced.
