Peace, socio-economy growth are priorities for 2018 - Nyusi

    APA-Maputo (Mozambique)

Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has said peace, consolidation of democratic rule of law, as well as economic and social growth are his government's priorities for 2018. In his New Year message to the nation, Nyusi said it is the duty of Mozambicans to contribute to achieving the goals.

"Peace, consolidation of the building of a state of democratic rights and economic and social growth will continue to be our priorities this year, and we count on all Mozambicans and our friends to help realize this collective goal", he declared.
The head of state added that the health of unity lies in social diversity that must be used as a binding factor, as well as the driving force of development.

Nyusi believes that the contribution of the country's main opposition Renamo leader, Afonso Dhlakama, in the search for an effective peace, should improve the democratic model and mechanisms of the country.
"These contributions have been being enriched throughout our society through the various existing mechanisms. In this regard, we wish to address a very special greeting to our compatriot and brother Afonso Dhlakama, leader of Renamo, for his personal commitment to contribute to peace that we all long for".
Nyusi added that during his presidential tours of the nation last year, and in his interaction with Mozambicans, the major call was for peace and national unity.
"The Mozambican people want peace, an effective and lasting peace that gives them the peace they need to focus exclusively on the fight against poverty. The Mozambican people ask us for the certainty of peace".
Looking back at the achievements of 2017, Nyusi praised the public and private sector as well as Mozambicans who have been unceasingly committed to self-improvement, as well as overcoming the prevailing challenges.
He said from the achievements of 2017, in addition to consolidating the careful management of public goods and building the economic and social infrastructure, there were encouraging signs of fighting corruption and crime.
