    Q4 2016: Senegal GDP enjoys 4 percent rise

    Senegal’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2016 compared with the corresponding period in 2015, the National Statistics and Demography Agency (ANSD) revealed in a statement on Wednesday.

    “This development is attributable to the good performance of the primary and tertiary sectors, which grew by 6.1 percent and 4.6 percent, in contrast to the secondary sector, which declined by 1.7 percent,” the ANSD statement explained.

    However, net taxes on products increased by 5.5 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2015, it added.

    Through the course of 2016, economic growth in real terms was at 6.5 percent compared to 2015.
