S/ Africa: ‘Evil comrades’ fuelling ANC factionalism – Official

APA-Johannesburg (South Africa)

Three former presidents who publicly attacked President Cyril Ramaphosa recently were described as “evil comrades” who have “lost their way” just weeks from the all-important African National Congress’ national elective conference in December, APA learnt on Friday.

According to former cabinet minister Nomvula Mokonyane, the officials had no business in attacking Ramaphosa in public so close to the elections to choose the ruling party’s leadership.

This after several ANC officials, including former presidents Thabo Mbeki, Kgalema Motlanthe and Jacob Zuma, lambasted Ramaphosa for his leadership style and other issues like the farm robbery in Limpopo province and the last elective conference in which Ramaphosa was alleged to have bought votes.

Mokonyane, who is contesting for the post of deputy secretary-general at the elective meeting, referred to a “heated” weekend of criticism by the three former leaders last month.

She said she would make Ramaphosa “look good” instead of castigating him over unsubstantiated charges, thereby harming the ANC as a brand.
