    Senegal: December trade deficit deteriorates

    APA - Dakar (Senegal)

Senegal's trade deficit deteriorated by CFA19.5 billion (about $31,200 million) by the end of December 2017, compared to the previous month.

The Directorate of Forecasting and Economic Studies (DPEE) said the deficit stood at CFA173.1 billion, against CFA153.5 billion in November 2017 (1 CFA francs = US$0.0016).

According to the DPEE, this situation follows the CFA8.5-billion decline in exports, combined with an increase in imports by CFA12.5 billion on a monthly basis.

Thus, the import coverage rate by exports was 32.5 percent in December 2017, against 36.7 percent in November 2017, representing a decrease of 4.2 percent during the period under review.
