    Trial resumes of Dakar Mayor Khalifa Sall, co-accused

    The trial of the mayor of Dakar, Khalifa Sall, and co-accused resumes Wednesday January 3, 2018 at a special hearing before the Criminal Court in Dakar.

    It would be recalled that Sall’s trial started on 14 December 2017, following his indictment for embezzlement.

    Khalifa Sall and co-accused are being prosecuted for “criminal conspiracy, embezzlement of public funds, fraud on public funds, forgery of administrative document.”

    The mayor of Dakar has been in detention since March 2017, in connection with the investigation of alleged financial malpractices involving CFA 1.8 billion francs.

    Sall’s co-defendants include Mbaye Toure, director of administration and finance for the city of Dakar, Ibrahima Diaw, head of the Finance and Accounting Division, Amadou Moctar Diop, coordinator of the Inspectorate General for municipal services, Yaya Bodian, head of the Budget Office, Fatou Traore, assistant to the director of administration and finance.
