Uemoa presidents to meet on Thursday

The 22nd Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) will be held on March 25, 2021 via videoconference thanks to the ongoing global health crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The new coronavirus will be at the heart of the debates with the point of "the situation within the  community's space at the time of vaccination campaigns", a statement shared with APA on Tuesday said.

In addition, the leaders of the eight member countries, members of UEMOA Council of Ministers and heads of institutions will discuss "the state of the Union in 2020, including the economic, monetary and financial situation as well as the state of implementation of high-level projects.

The session, which is scheduled to start at 10:00 GMT, will be chaired by the Ivorian head of state, Alassane Ouattara, who is also the current chairman of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of UEMOA.

The latter is the supreme body that defines the broad policy guidelines of the Union and appoints the presidents and members of the organs and institutions. 

The Conference of Heads of State and Government meets at least once every year.
