Zimbabwe has won the 2022 European Moot Court Championships following a hard-fought victory against the Netherlands during a competition that ended in Romania on Sunday.
Moot court is a co-curricular activity where high school or law school students take part in simulated court sessions, usually involving participation in mock oral arguments.
Participating for the first time in the European Moot Court Championships, the Zimbabwe National High School Moot Team staved off the stiff challenge from highly-fancied opponents from Scotland, the Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland and Bulgaria on their way to the final.
The preliminary rounds saw the southern Africans get the better of their European opponents before booking a place in the final against the Netherlands.
“The experience is absolutely astronomical as we won the European Moot Court Competition. It was a really tough battle against the Netherlands but we proved to them that we have talent,” Zimbabwe National High School Moot Team captain Ruvimbo Simbi told journalists from Romania.
The championship ran from June 25 to July 3.
The victory comes a month after the Zimbabweans were crowned World Moot Court Champions during a tournament hosted virtually by the United States.
The victory during the world championships saw them being invited to participate in the European Moot Court Competition in Romania.
