The nurses embarked on the strike over unpaid allowances after various efforts made to get the authorities to pay them failed.
The Ghanaian Times reports on Tuesday that the nurses had to resort to strike action as the last option, following the failure on the part of their employer to pay them their allowances.
A press statement signed by the Chairman of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Abdul Karim Issah, said the management of the hospital pledged to pay the allowances, but failed to honour the promise thereby provoking the nurses to lay down their tools.
The patients, who went to the hospital on Monday, were stranded as a result of the strike.
"An agreement was reached between us and management of the hospital for a 10 percent basic salary allowances due us starting from January 2019, but they failed to pay it," the statement said.
