China assists Ghana with $800,000 for Ebola prevention

The Chinese government has donated US$800,000 to the Ghanaian government towards the efforts of the West African country to prevent any possible outbreak of Ebola in the country.

At the signing ceremony in Accra on Monday, Chinese ambassador to Ghana, Sun Baohong said the money was to assist Ghana to purchase materials meant for the preparation towards prevention of the dreadful disease which has killed 3000 people in the three most affected countries of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. The Deputy Finance Minister, Cassey Ato Forson who signed for Ghana expressed gratitude to the Chinese government, adding that the donation had come at a time when Ghana was doing everything possible to prevent the outbreak of the disease in the country. Ambassador Baohong said Ebola has no border limit and that it could affect any country adding that it was time for the international community to unite against the dreadful disease. She said China was committed to helping prevent the disease from spreading further hence the donation to Ghana. The donation comes a few days after the Norwegian government also supported Ghana with US$1million through the World Health Organization (WHO) in its quest to prevent the disease from hitting the country.
