At least 13 people have gone missing after a boat sank in Lake Chamo, Arba Minch, southern Ethiopia.
The accident occurred on Friday in the evening local time as the boat was carrying 16 passengers including its operator.
The cause of the accident is not yet determined and Gamo zone police have been undertaking a search operation to locate the missing passengers.
Commander Reta Teklu, public relations head of Gamo zone police, has confirmed that 13 people are still missing.
Three of the passengers were found alive.
According to Commander Reta Teklu, two of them were found after floating all night using empty Jerricans.
The other passenger drifted to a small Island while using an empty jerrican and was spotted in the evening of Friday.
There was a boat accident on Lake Chamo in March 2023 which claimed eight lives.
Reta said that there is a concern for the safety of those missing, more than 48 hours after the accident.
