An American woman was killed by an elephant while on a safari in Zambia this week, becoming the second United States tourist to be trampled by a jumbo in the African country this year.
According to reports monitored here on Saturday, Juliana Gle Tourneau from New Mexico state in the US was dragged from the safari vehicle while watching a herd of elephants in Zambia’s Livingstone on Wednesday.
Her group was parked near the Maramba Cultural Bridge in the town because of traffic caused by the elephant herd. She was thrown out of the vehicle and trampled.
This is the second fatal attack on American tourists by elephants in Zambia over the past two months.
Another American tourist, Gail Mattson was killed after a bull elephant attacked a tour group in Zambia on March 30.
Mattson sustained serious injuries and later died when an elephant charged a vehicle carrying six guests and a guide in Zambia’s Kafue National Park.
