About 20 persons were killed in two landslides in Southern Ethiopia, according to a district official.
The deadly landslides occurred on Monday morning following a heavy downpour at around 10:00 a.m. in the Geze Gofa district in Southern Ethiopia, the chief administrator of the district, Miskir Mitiku, said.,..
The administrator said that more than 30 persons were pulled out alive with light and serious injuries.
He said that the death toll was likely to rise as rescue operations were still underway at the landslide area.
The rainy season in Ethiopia began this July and it is expected to last until mid-September.
Landslides in some parts of the East African country are often caused by frequent rainfall during this season.
