Nigeria’s FIFA U-17 Women team, the Flamingos on Monday defeated their Chilean counterparts 2-1 to advance to the quarter-finals of the ongoing 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.
The match, which was the third and final match of the group stage of the competition, was played at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India.
The Nigerian women opened scoring in the fourth minute through Blessing Emmanuel and Bisola Mosaku got the second goal in the 82nd minute with a strike off a free-kick by Miracle Usani.
The Chilean team got their lone goal through a late penalty which was converted by Roverner Tali to bring the score line 2-1 in favour of the Nigerian team.
With this victory, the Flamingos have qualified for the quarter finals of the competition, having defeated New Zealand 4-0 on Friday in their second match.
Nigeria finished with 6 points, behind Germany with 9 in Group B, while Chile finished third with 3 points and New Zealand was fourth with no points.
