APA-Rabat (Morocco) The evacuation of Moroccan nationals from troubled Sudan began according to instructions of from the monarch.
Two RAM planes from Sudan landed in Casablanca on Wednesday with 293 Moroccan nationals on board, who were airlifted following the deterioration of the security situation in that country.
On Monday, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad said that “following the recent events in the Republic of Sudan and the deterioration of the security situation in this brotherly country, King Mohammed VI has given his high instructions to ensure the repatriation of Moroccan nationals from this country.”
”In accordance with the monarch’s instructions, the services of the embassy of Morocco in Sudan have organised, in a first phase, a land caravan from the capital Khartoum to the city of Port Sudan, which benefited more than 200 Moroccan nationals established in Sudan or whose presence in this country coincided with this difficult internal situation”, added the Ministry, specifying that this land caravan arrived safely on Monday evening in the city of Port Sudan.
The king has also given instructions for the organisation of an airlift in coordination with Royal Air Maroc to ensure the repatriation of Moroccans and their families in the best conditions, the statement said.
Violent clashes between elements of the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been raging in Sudan since April 15, leaving hundreds dead and thousands injured.
