Dozens of Liberians, (all males) arrived in Liberia on Wednesday, on a chartered flight as the latest deportees from the United States.
The Director of Communication at the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Abraham Dolley, told journalists in Monrovia that the 35 deportees had been in detention since their arrest for the commission of various crimes ranging from aggravated assault, hijacking, attacking security personnel (Police), rape, theft of property, among others.
Dolley recalled that about three weeks ago, three Liberian deportees, two females and a male, were sent back to Liberia, besides the first batch of 11 who were deported on November 11 this year.
He put the total number of Liberian deportees this year to about 50.
The deportations could be a prelude to the Tuesday, 31 March, 2020 deadline for the mass deportation of Liberians by the United States government following the cancellation of the DED or Temporary Protective Status (TPS) which came into being during the Liberian civil war.
