A boat carrying 300 persons capsized at the Gbajibo River in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State in northern Nigeria.
The statement by the Press Secretary to the Council Chairman of Mokwa local government, Abubakar Dakani, said on Wednesday that 60 bodies had been recovered.
Dakani said that the boat was travelling from Mundi to Gbajibo for the annual Maulud celebration when the tragedy struck.
He confirmed that the Council Chairman, Abdullahi Muregi, acknowledged the recovery of 60 bodies, while 10 survivors had been rescued.
The statement added that rescue efforts in collaboration with the State emergency management agency and locals are still ongoing.
