Alkenena Aiob Ali, died on Friday when security forces fired tear-gas to disperse hundreds of protests demanding the resignation of President Omar al-Bashir.
“She was affected by complications of severe asthmatic crisis after tear gas was thrown into her house in Khartoum”, the Central Committee of Doctors, an independent body, said in a statement on Monday.
“The case of Alkenena was not the first, as the use of tear gas – excessively – in populated areas has already led to many cases of complications, especially among people with respiratory illnesses” it added.
Last month, President Bashir imposed a state of emergency after failing to end nationwide protests against his 30-year rule.
According to human rights organizations, over 50 people were killed by security forces since the beginning of anti-Bashir protests in December.
