APA-Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire) This decision was taken in application of the economic and financial sanctions imposed on Niger by ECOWAS and UEMOA following the overthrow of the elected president, Mohamed Bazoum, by the military junta on July 26.
An inter-ministerial note, involving the Ministry of the Budget and State Accounts and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and SME Promotion, urged the administration and companies to suspend all import and export operations with Niger.
The note also stated that customs clearance formalities for goods to and from Niger are suspended. This is “until further notice” in application of the economic and financial sanctions imposed by ECOWAS and UEMOA.
ECOWAS heads of state and government, meeting in an extraordinary session in Abuja on July 30, decided to close all land and air borders and suspend all commercial and financial transactions between the organisation’s member states and Niger.
