The Rwandan embassy in Addis Ababa in conjunction with Ethiopia’s Foreign Ministry, is organizing a so-called Walk to Remember on Sunday as part of activities commemorating the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis.
The walk is scheduled to be held from 8:00am to 10:00am under the theme ‘Remember-Unite-Renew,’ on the route from the National Stadium to Meskel Square-ECA-Palace-Ethiopia Hotel-National Theatre and back to the main stadium.
The ‘Walk to Remember’ is an initiative developed and conducted during the commemoration of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Friday.
It is a purposeful walk that aims at honoring the victims while building a future of Rwanda and Africa that is free of division and violence, it said.
The walk promotes awareness of genocide, fosters unity and reconciliation, and empowers participants to take a serious reflection and an active stand against genocide whilst sending a message of hope to survivors as well as commitment for Never Again to Genocide!
The event is expected to attract 2,200 participants comprising Ethiopians, especially members of youth and women’s associations, the Rwandan community living in Addis Ababa and the diplomatic community based in the city.
