The Black Stars of Ghana on Friday lost the opportunity of securing 3 points in their second match with the Panthers of Gabon, when the team conceded a late goal to bring the score line to 1-1.
Despite the outcome of the encounter on Friday at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé, Cameroon, the Black Stars dominated the game from start to finish and the team’s captain Andre Ayew scored the opener for his side in the 18th minute of the match.
This goal lead further sustained the grip of the proceedings by the Black Stars until the second half when the match was decided by the substitution bench.
While the substitutions made by the Ghanaian coach late in the second half changed the defensive pattern, when he removed Iddrisu Baba, Kamal Deen Sulemana and Andre Ayew, his Gabonese counterpart’s substitution saw the entry of Jim Allevinah, who scored the equalizer in the 88th minute.
With this score line, the Black Stars have 1 point from two matches, while Gabon and Morocco have 4 and 6 points respectively and the fourth place is occupied by Comoros with no point yet in Group C.
However, the Black Stars have the opportunity to redeem their image if they beat Comoros on Tuesday in the third game in the group and move on to the knockout stage of the tournament. But any slip in this last game will bring to an end the team’s dream of marking any meaningful impact in the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
