Namibia are facing their biggest test with Zambia standing in their way to qualify for the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals scheduled for June in Egypt.
With Zambia last in Group K and virtually out of contention, Namibia in second place need at least a draw, or a win by group leaders Guinea-Bissau over Mozambique to qualify.
President Geingob has expressed optimism about the chances of the Brave Warriors to qualify for the 2019 AFCON finals.
“Our football has come of age. Standing on the eve of the third qualification of the Brave Warriors for the AFCON finals is ample demonstration of our footballing achievements over the past 29 years.
“I am confident about a win in Lusaka on Saturday afternoon. The whole nation is behind the Brave Warriors. They should finish the job that they have started by making it to the finals in Egypt in June 2019,” the president said in statement issued by the presidency.
Namibia has a poor record in the AFCON competition, having only appeared twice at the finals in 1998 and 2008.
Hence, President Geingob has urged Brave Warriors Ricardo and his team to do the Namibian nation proud.
