The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday defeated their counterparts from Sao Tome and Principe 6-0 in their last match of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
In the match played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo in Akwa Ibom State in south-eastern Nigeria, saw the Super Eagles take an early lead through Victor Osimhen in the 14th minute of the match.
The Super Eagles, which dominated the proceedings in the match got the second goal through Ademola Lookman in the 27th minute of the match.
The first half ended 2-0 in favour of the Super Eagles.
Taiwo Awoniyi got the 3rd goal for Nigeria in the 57th minute of the match, while Osimhen got his brace in the 70th minute when he converted the penalty awarded to the Super Eagles when he was brought down by the goalkeeper inside the 18-yard box.
The Nigerian striker, Osimhen completed his hard trick in the 80th minute of the match when he collected a through pass from substitute Samuel Chukwueze to score his 3rd goal.
The sixth goal for the Super Eagles was scored in the 85th minute of the game by Samuel Chukwueze to bring the score line to 6-0.
With this victory, the Super Eagles finished with 15 points from six games to top Group A, while Guinea Bissau finished second with 10 points. Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe finished third and fourth with 5points and 1 point respectively.
The 2023 African Cup of Nations will be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire next year.
