APA – Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire) – Cote d’Ivoire will be hosting the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations (AfCON) from 13 January to 11 February 2024.
“On January 13, 2024, our country will have the honor of hosting the 2023 African Cup of Nations. We are already ready, I would say fully ready, to host the greatest sporting competition on the continent,” President Alassane Ouattara said in a message to the nation on Sunday, on the eve of Cote d’Ivoire’s 63rd birthday.
Cote d’Ivoire intends to show its “legendary hospitality” at this African football highlight. The Ivorian president said he was convinced that his country would offer the world its best in terms of hospitality, culture and tourist attractions.
He congratulated Prime Minister Patrick Achi and the government on the quality of the infrastructure, and also thanked all the partners, both national and external, who are helping to ensure that the AfCON is successfully organized.
“To our Elephant (National team) footballers, I would like to assure you of my support, the support of the government and of all Ivorians. You will be playing in the best possible conditions during this AfCON
on home soil. Make our compatriots even prouder with your performances,” Mr Alassane Ouattara insisted.
Mr. Ouattara also congratulated the Elephants basketball players on their brilliant qualification for the 19th World Basketball Championship, which will take place from 25 August to 10 September 2023. He invited the athletes to defend “with dignity the Ivorian flag,” as usual.
