The workshop focused on five key areas: governance and justice, security and decentralization, climate change adaptation, social infrastructure, and economic development. The initiative, led by the AfDB’s Vice Presidency for Regional Development and Integration, aims to address the complex challenges facing the Sahel region, including fragility, conflict, and climate change.
Daniel Ndoye, AfDB Country Manager in Burkina Faso, emphasized the importance of the workshop in strengthening synergies between UN institutions and multilateral development banks. He highlighted the initiative’s alignment with the AfDB’s strategy to address fragility and build resilience in Africa.
Riadh Ben Messaoud, AfDB’s Chief Coordinator on Fragility, stressed the significance of the workshop’s recommendations in guiding future interventions and mobilizing resources to support vulnerable populations in the region.
By working together, these organizations aim to create a more resilient and sustainable Sahel, empowering communities to overcome challenges and build a brighter future.
