The African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced that it has released, as a matter of urgency, nearly US$ 10 million to help Nouakchott cope with the coronavirus pandemic.
After the G5 Sahel Covid-19 Support Project, Mauritania is benefiting from the assistance of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The financial institution “responded very quickly to the beginning of the pandemic by deploying two operations to strengthen the response,” said the AfDB focal point in the Mauritanian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Promotion of Productive Sectors, Mahfoud Ould Ahmedou, in a statement seen by APA on Thursday.
The coronavirus pandemic led the Mauritanian government to take “social measures” with the assistance of the ADB.
The AfDB then conducted a regional project to support the resilience of food and nutrition systems of vulnerable populations in the G5 Sahel countries, Ahmedou said.
Among the important measures of this multi-faceted programme is the provision of financial transfers to about 200,000 Mauritanian households to mitigate the impact of the pandemic, the AfDB focal point said.
This aid, he added, was accompanied by other measures including the abolition of taxes on basic commodities.
