The commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Central Africa provided an opportunity to identify ways to strengthen socio-economic development.
The Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Governor of the African Development Bank for Cameroon, Alamine Ousmane Mey, expressed, on October 17, 2024, in Yaoundé, his deep satisfaction with the work of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Cameroon and the Central Africa region.
He also expressed clear expectations to strengthen the impact of the Bank Group’s interventions on the
sustainable and inclusive development of Cameroon.
“To strengthen the impact of its interventions, we expect the African Development Bank to inspire great ambitions, embody a vision of inclusive and sustainable development, and be a model of robustness
and exemplary governance,” said Mr. Mey on the occasion of the ceremony to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Bank in Central Africa and Cameroon.
“We want to see an institution with simple and effective operational models, which attracts the best talents and which makes a real difference, with a tangible impact on the development of our country,” he added, quoted in a press release to APA.
Celebrated under the theme “A stronger African Development Bank for a more resilient and prosperous Central Africa,” the event aimed to highlight the successes of the Bank Group and strengthen links between Central Africa in general, Cameroon and the Bank on the main development axes, including the green transition and digitalisation, regional integration, access to electricity, governance, social development and capacity building.
For his part, Serge N’Guessan, Director General of the African Development Bank for Central Africa, proudly recalled: “The investments of the African Development Bank are investments that touch the lives of every person in our communities, bringing tangible and lasting improvements to daily life.”
The event was an opportunity for Cameroon to demonstrate its appreciation for this historic alliance.
High-level presentations and discussion panels brought together members of the government, Bank experts and other development partners. Participants learned about the flagship projects financed by the Bank, particularly in the areas of energy, transport infrastructure and agriculture.
