African players delivered a series of stellar performances across European leagues this weekend, with Guinean striker Sehrou Guirassy stealing the spotlight with a four-goal haul for Borussia Dortmund.
Guirassy’s incredible display powered Dortmund to a 6-0 demolition of Union Berlin. He opened the scoring in the 40th minute and then struck three times in quick succession in the 75th, 80th, and 83rd minutes, bringing his Bundesliga season tally to 13 goals in 20 appearances.
Elsewhere in Germany, Morocco’s Amine Adli scored Bayer Leverkusen’s second goal in their 2-0 victory over Holstein Kiel.
In the English Premier League, Egyptian star Mohamed Salah scored his 25th goal of the season for Liverpool against Manchester City, also providing an assist. At Brentford, Congolese Yoane Wissa and Cameroonian Bryan Mbeumo both found the net in a 4-0 rout of Leicester City. In Spain, Ghana’s Inaki Williams scored and assisted in Athletic Bilbao’s dominant 7-1 win over Real Valladolid, for whom Senegal’s Mamadou Sylla scored a consolation goal.
In France, Senegal’s Bamba Dieng scored a late penalty to secure a 3-3 draw for his team. Nigeria’s Moses Simon and Congo’s Meschack Elia scored for Nantes in their 3-1 win against Lens. Ivorian players Hamed Junior Traoré and Clément Akpa provided assists in AJ Auxerre’s 3-0 upset of Olympique de Marseille. Finally, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi scored twice for Paris Saint-Germain in a 3-2 victory over Olympique Lyonnais, taking his Ligue 1 season total to 4 goals and 5 assists.
