APA – Cotonou (Benin) – Benin Terminal and AGL Bénin, subsidiaries of Africa Global Logistics, jointly contributed to and actively participated in the “PORT OUVERT” Days (JPO) 2023 on 20 and 21 October 2023 on the Amazon esplanade in Cotonou, Benin.
An initiative of the Autonomous Port de Cotonou (PAC) and under the patronage of the Minister of the Living Environment, Transport and Sustainable Development, this event brought together the main players of the port community of Benin and the sub-region, economic operators, decision-makers, public authorities, government officials, importers, exporters, industrialists, private companies, users of the Port of Cotonou and the general public.
Under the theme “The Port of Cotonou, from yesterday to today,” the JPO 2023 aims to lift the veil on the Port of Cotonou for the general public by first presenting the projects underway to transform the port, then the main challenges that the Beninese port sector is facing for the sub-regional economy, and finally the various stakeholders who are working on a daily basis with the Port of Cotonou and the Beninese government to implement the ambitious plan to modernise and expand the Port of Cotonou.
Benin Terminal, operator of the container terminal at the Port of Cotonou, and AGL Benin, a key player in Benin’s logistics sector, both subsidiaries of Africa Global Logistics and privileged partners of the PAC, had an exhibition and presentation stand to highlight their innovative, tailor-made solutions.
Today, Benin Terminal is the main player with a 97% market share in container handling at the Port of Cotonou.
In 2022, the company handled around 527187 TEUs (20 equivalent units) at its facilities.
An expert in multimodal transport and tailor-made logistics, AGL Benin specialises in several areas of activity (transport, logistics, customs, transit, shipping, etc.) and has successfully completed major projects to and from the Port of Cotonou. Last year, AGL Benin took delivery of nearly 1,500 tonnes of industrial equipment at the Port of Cotonou on behalf of various customers in the hinterland.
Despite the challenges, AGL Benin’s teams travelled some 1,600km along the Benin-Niger corridor to ensure that customers’ goods and materials were delivered intact, safely and on time.
The two days dedicated to “PORT OUVERT” were also an opportunity for participants to discuss with experts from both companies and to learn more about the range of integrated logistics solutions offered by these two AGL subsidiaries in Benin.
With this participation, Benin Terminal and AGL Benin wish to confirm their position as key partners of the Autonomous Port of Cotonou.
The 2023 edition of the “PORT OUVERT” days was also a time for exchanges and debates with stakeholders, which made it possible to propose areas for improvement in the services provided by the Port of Cotonou and its partners, in order to better address the difficulties that port stakeholders are currently experiencing as a result of the tensions arising from the situation in Niger.
JPO 2023 was also marked by guided tours to discover the facilities, equipment, machinery and the professional men and women who make up the Benin Terminal teams that serve ships 24 hours a day on the south quay of the Port of Cotonou.
“PORT OUVERT Days 2023 is a fantastic opportunity for us to get closer to a variety of players in the same geographical area in two days. We leave with a better understanding of each party’s expectations, and we are even more determined to be a leading partner for the Autonomous Port of Cotonou by continuing to improve our services in order to offer cutting-edge solutions to our customers,” said Pierre NGON, General Manager of AG’’s Benin-Niger Cluster.
